While the rest of the world has been worried about whether or not Lady Gaga will deliver the hits with ARTPOP, Ariana Grande has been grinding away at promotion for her criminally underrated debut album. She’s not the brightest star in pop (yet), but she has a lot of promise and today those still on the fence will likely be converted to a Grande diehard once they see the official video for “Right There.”

Having spent the past month or so burning up pop radio, “Right There” has been overdue for the video treatment. The visuals offer a retelling of Romeo and Juliet that blends Victorian fashion with modern style. Patrick Schwarzenegger guests as the male lead, Ariana is Juliet, and G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean makes an appearance as a priest. Yes, a priest. You can view the video at the end of this post.

It takes more than a catchy single to have a career in pop, but Ariana Grande is off to a strong start with “Right There.” The track injects just enough urban flavor into an otherwise plain pop offering to create something that feels fresh-yet-familiar. The video is fine, but it’s not going to be remembered in six months, and unlike other genres that’s completely okay because by that time Grande will have at least one additional single being promoted at radio (and likely another video on the way).
